Tim Wilson aka The Bounceologist
Tim grew up in the UK but has spent his whole adult life in Hong Kong and China. Over the years, he has worked as teacher, journalist, editor, food critic, copywriter, fashion designer, market trader, web designer, sports promoter and Waboba bounceologist. A biography this varied usually includes sheep shearing, but Tim has never sheared a sheep.

He distinguished himself by falling asleep at the table during his first date with his future wife, but amazingly secured a second date. They were married in a cement factory. Tim now lives in Sanya, Hainan Island, with his wife and two children. He contributes two columns – Notes from a Small Island and The Bionic Salesman – and runs four Waboba-related websites: Bangkok Bounce, Sanya Bounce, The Surfing Hainan Open and Waboba Hainan SurfnSkate.

Location: Sanya/Bangkok/Phuket

Favorite Waboba Product: Pro Ball

Place I’m dying to travel to: UK (been away too long)

Beach you’ll most likely find me on: Dadonghai in Sanya, Karon in Phuket

Best Beach Memory: Hated school, but my spirits would lift each year as we rounded the last hill on the approach to Newport, Pembrokeshire, West Wales at the start of another endless summer. The time was filled with boats, boards, dunes, rockpools, early-adolescent crushes and football in the rain. The highlight, I suppose, was the first time I won a sailing trophy, sailing with my father, at age 13.

After playing Waboba, I love to eat: Babamama’s sticky rice meat balls

Favorite Summer Smell: Rain

Song that gets me pumped up: Born to Run, early Smiths, Genesis in their prime (Selling England by the Pound)

The best part about working at Waboba: Free samples

Musician, Athlete, Actor/Actress, or Historical Figure you’d love to play Waboba with: As long as I could sell the tickets and own the TV rights, I’d want a three-way face-off between Karl Marx, Friedrich Nietzsche and John Stuart Mill. Or I’d like RAF 617 Squadron to come back and give us a miniature re-enactment of their Dambuster raids.

In my spare time, you’d find me: I vaguely remember there being a thing called spare time, but this question doesn’t apply to me. I have small children.

Place I’m dying to travel to: Costa Rica and Italy. My grandparents are from Italy, so I qualify to be an Italian citizen. It would be nice to visit Sicily and meet my ancestors…and drink lots of red wine and eat lots of pasta. I’ll be sure to bring an extra pair of pants in a bigger size for my expected weight gain.

Beach you’ll most likely find me on: Folly Beach, SC

Best Beach Memory: I learned how to walk on the beach, but I don’t remember that. So I’d have to say when my parents would hold me by the hands and swing me into the waves. Sadly, I’m too big for that now and I haven’t found two giants to take on the responsibility.

After playing Waboba, I love to eat: Pizza with pepperoni, onion and banana peppers or a smoothie.

Favorite Summer Smell: Fresh cut grass.

Song that gets me pumped up: Jingle Bells

The best part about working at Waboba: It’s fun! The people and customers are great. We get to play with awesome products and share the same fun experiences together. Plus, since we are international, I’m learning new languages. I’ll probably learn more now than I did in the 4 years I took Spanish. But, shhh, don’t tell my high school teacher that.

Musician, Athlete, Actor/Actress, or Historical Figure you’d love to play Waboba with: Adele. I’d make her sing while we played.

In my spare time, you’d find me: Outside on a hammock, hanging with my dog Cooper, enjoying a beer with my partner, running, biking, rollerblading, or in the bathroom (when you gotta go, you gotta go).

Beach you’ll most likely find me on: Ixia beach on the island of Rhodes, Greece. My husband and I travel there every summer with our families. Apart from that, I spend a lot of beach time at a small island in the archipelago of Stockholm, called Muskoe.

Best Beach Memory: Got married on Eagle Beach on the island of Aruba in the Caribbean. Bare feet, sand, sunset and the turquoise ocean in the background – lovely!

After playing Waboba, I love to eat: Anything and everything.

Favorite Summer Smell: The flower Lilac, when it blossoms in May/June here in Sweden

Song that gets me pumped up: Everybody dance now – Bob Sinclair version

The best part about working at Waboba: Apart from co-workers, travels and the daily work in general, I love the fact that the Waboba ball, for instance, isn’t just a game, it’s a way to connect to each other through playing. The ball makes it possible to interact and meet with people in a fun and relaxed way.

Musician, Athlete, Actor/Actress, or Historical Figure you’d love to play Waboba with: Steven Seagal (favorite action actor since childhood, don’t ask me why)

In my spare time, you’d find me: At the gym lifting weights, in the kitchen preparing dinner, on the couch relaxing or on the plane leaving for a vacation somewhere.
